Chapter 76: So He’s Just a Bodyguard

In broad daylight, someone actually dared come to her front gate to rob people?

Had the infamous death-row gang come knocking?

Tang Xiaoman and Yu Jingyuan each rushed out with their own people, ready to fight.

But outside the gate, aside from Yu Jingyuan’s men, there were only two people—a man and a woman.

The man wore a suit. The woman had one arm in a sling. One was fighting; the other was screaming.

The man was desperately trying to snatch the black briefcase, shouting, “This is my case!”

The woman shrieked beside him, “Stop fighting! He’s President Gu! He’s the CEO!”

Tang Xiaoman took a closer look and nearly laughed from sheer irritation.

Enemies really did meet on narrow roads.

The two in front of her were Gu Heng and Shu Jia.

She had heard that Gu Heng caused a scene last night demanding to see her, so she’d simply told Lu Jingming to release Fubao on him. After that, there had been no more noise.

Unexpectedly, he was persistent enough to return today.

Unfortunately, Fubao wasn’t home. It had gone out on patrol with Number 05 and Number 09. Otherwise, it would have already pounced and bitten him.

Seeing someone robbing him of his money, Yu Jingyuan flew into a rage.

They had run into plenty of robbers on the way here, but this was the first one brazen enough to do it like this.

“Damn it, who the hell are you? What CEO? Being a CEO means you can rob people in broad daylight at someone else’s gate? Brothers—beat him! Beat him hard!”

Yu Jingyuan lost his temper and gave the order.

His men responded immediately, striking even harder.

Outnumbered, Gu Heng was beaten black and blue.

When he saw Tang Xiaoman come out, he struggled to fight back while roaring furiously, “Tang Xiaoman, so it was you! You stole everything from my secret room!”

He should have realized sooner.

That secret vault was so confidential he hadn’t even told Su Rou about it. How could it have been robbed?

So it was Tang Xiaoman—the inside thief!

At some point, she must have set her eyes on his hidden stash, then taken advantage of the company being empty after the flood to steal everything.

Thinking of the years of savings he had hidden in that vault being wiped out by her in one sweep, his eyes nearly bled with hatred.

“Stop! Please stop hitting him!” Shu Jia was pale with fright, her lips trembling, her entire body shaking.

Crying, she begged Tang Xiaoman, who was standing nearby with her arms folded, watching the show. “Tang Xiaoman, do something! If this keeps going, President Gu will be beaten to death!”

Tang Xiaoman raised a brow and smiled. “Oh? Then I’ll do something.”

She gave Zhou Yichen a look.

Zhou Yichen immediately ordered, “Number 02, Number 03—go help. Beat him together.”

Shu Jia: “…”

Gu Heng: “…”

In the end, it was Yu Jingyuan who feared someone might actually die and finally called his brothers off.

Gu Heng collapsed on the ground like a dog whose spine had been broken.

Shu Jia was so terrified she couldn’t even cry anymore. Several times, she tried to help Gu Heng up, but he was too badly hurt, and she couldn’t get him to his feet.

Just then, one of Yu Jingyuan’s men, nicknamed Pot Lid, leaned close and whispered a few words into his ear.

Yu Jingyuan visibly paused, then looked at Tang Xiaoman. “So this man is from Gu Group…”

“Who cares who he is?” Tang Xiaoman said. “If he dares run over in broad daylight to rob people, then he’d better be prepared to get beaten. Boss Yu, don’t worry. I’ll take responsibility for this. No one will trouble you.”

Her confidence was absolute.

Yu Jingyuan relaxed and rubbed his forehead. “If Miss Tang doesn’t treat me as an outsider, just call me Old Yu.”

Tang Xiaoman remembered their first meeting, when he had also rubbed his forehead and said he wasn’t actually old—he had merely aged in a hurry, which was why everyone called him Old Yu.

She smiled. “I’ll call you Brother Yu.”

Yu Jingyuan said it was too polite, but his face practically bloomed with happiness.

Gu Heng, still sprawled on the ground, finally struggled to lift his upper body. His bloodshot eyes locked onto Tang Xiaoman as she chatted and laughed easily with Yu Jingyuan.

He gritted his teeth. “Tang Xiaoman, the money you gave that man is mine! Mine! I have proof. My initials are engraved on the case—GH.”

Yu Jingyuan looked carefully and saw that, indeed, two dark letters had been engraved on one side of the case: GH.

Tang Xiaoman’s expression did not change. She looked down at Gu Heng from above and sneered. “Engraved letters prove it’s yours? Then call out to it. See if it answers you.”

Gu Heng nearly spat blood.

“Tang Xiaoman, you stole everything from my secret room! How vicious can you be? That was half my life, and you took it all…”

The firearms and ammunition, blades, gold, and an entire case of cash he had exchanged using every bit of his private money—all of it had been taken by Tang Xiaoman.

He wanted to flay her alive.

Tang Xiaoman spread her hands and gave him a smile infuriating enough to kill. “Do you have evidence? Why don’t you call the police?”

Gu Heng was stunned by her shamelessness.

Was this still the Tang Xiaoman he remembered?

She had changed completely, as if she had become another person.

Had some evil spirit possessed her?

A chill ran through him. For a moment, even his fury couldn’t find a way out.

Yu Jingyuan had his men load all the exchanged supplies onto the diesel four-wheeler, then bid her farewell.

Tang Xiaoman said meaningfully, “The overall situation isn’t good right now. Money is depreciating badly. It’s better to exchange it for supplies as soon as possible.”

Yu Jingyuan nodded repeatedly, grateful. “I understand. Thank you for the reminder, Miss Tang.”

As a businessman, of course he understood the logic.

It was just that no one else wanted that pile of useless stones except Tang Xiaoman, who was willing to pay ten million. If he kept them any longer, they’d probably end up as weights for pickle jars.

Besides, this trip hadn’t been mainly for selling jade. He had come to deliver the threshing machine and corn harvester, and merely brought the thousand-plus jin of stones along the way.

It was basically ten million picked up for free.

Cash was depreciating fast, yes, but ten million in paper money could still exchange for plenty of supplies.

This trip was pure profit.

Yu Jingyuan left with his men.

Gu Heng could only watch helplessly as his money was taken away, eyes nearly splitting with rage.

After a long while, he finally struggled to his feet.

Shu Jia hurried forward to support him, sobbing. “President Gu, are you all right?”

Gu Heng spat out a mouthful of bloody saliva, along with half a tooth.

He pushed Shu Jia away and staggered toward Tang Xiaoman, only to be blocked by Zhou Yichen.

Looking at the tall, powerful man in front of him, Gu Heng immediately felt threatened. His gaze turned vicious.

“So you’re that man!”

Shu Jia quickly chimed in, “Yes, it’s him! Tang Xiaoman takes him everywhere. Anyone can tell the two of them have an improper relationship…”

Gu Heng grew even angrier, as if Zhou Yichen had already cuckolded him.

Zhou Yichen narrowed his eyes and looked Gu Heng up and down.

“So you’re Miss Tang’s former boss.”

The boss who had made Tang Xiaoman work overtime every day.

The boss who had drained her to the bone.

The evil capitalist.

Gu Heng straightened his back, but the pain in his body and his swollen, pig-like face made it impossible to maintain his usual lofty elegance. All he could do was act even more arrogant.

He let out a contemptuous laugh.

“Heh. I thought you were someone impressive. Turns out you’re just a bodyguard.”

Tang Xiaoman was murdered by her fiancé and his white moonlight, and when she opened her eyes again, she was back a month before the apocalypse.
She regained her space and went on a shopping spree, hoarding everything.
She built a safe house for the apocalypse, formed a team, and incidentally sent the scumbag and the bitch to hell!
The apocalypse arrived, with torrential rains, typhoons, flash floods, crocodiles, polar nights and extreme cold, polar days and extreme heat, plagues and insect infestations, earthquakes and tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, and massive tectonic plate collisions… While
others were suffering and living in constant fear,
Tang Xiaoman lived in a villa, eating hot pot and drinking milk tea, enjoying air conditioning, taking hot showers, snacking on sunflower seeds and drinking cola, petting her dog and watching dramas—life couldn’t be more comfortable.
She occasionally teased her teammates: “Anyone have abs? Let me see!”
Unexpectedly, her casual remark was taken seriously by the man, who even demanded that she take responsibility.
She originally just wanted to survive in the apocalypse, but she accidentally became a powerful figure in the apocalypse.
PS: The space gradually upgrades and expands infinitely.
The female protagonist is either upgrading her spatial abilities or stockpiling goods; the main focus is on her career, with romance as a secondary element.
This is a fictional post-apocalyptic world; please do not attempt to relate it to reality.
